Face to Face
Jesus was passing through Samaria…Sychar to be exact, when He stopped by a well to rest. The disciples had gone in to town for food…you know, the inevitable Taco Bell run. You’ve been there. A woman comes up to Jesus and they have some conversation. Jesus is testing her out to see if she’ll tell Him the truth about questions He’s asking. Of course He already knows the answers.
As they talk she realizes He knows an awful lot about her. He promises water that will never let her go thirsty. She starts telling Him there’s going to be a Messiah, a Savior one day…one day He’s going to come. That’s when Jesus drops the bomb in John CH 4, check it:
25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.”26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
Oh wow. It wasn’t like it was a passing thought, or one of those times when someone says something to you…and you’re busy thinking about something else. It was loud and clear. It was understood. It was, absolutely jaw dropping.
Could you imagine that? Trust me, she wasn’t prepared…as much as you and I could NEVER be prepared to meet Jesus FACE TO FACE.
The disciples come back as the woman is telling the whole town about Jesus. Remember, He was traveling. If you’re like me you don’t like to stop when you’re traveling. Every bathroom break my wife or kids beg for kills me. You keep going, no matter what, even if your car is on fire.
The town’s people were really digging the face to face relationship with Jesus, so they asked Him to stay.
39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.”40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.41 And many more believed because of his word.42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
Look at that last part. NUGGET TIME: If you get all of your Biblical knowledge from someone else, a Pastor, YouTube, Podcast, iCampus, Books, in Church…whatever…you need to drop all of it and get some face time with Jesus. PRONTO.
Hear it for yourself. Look how much it changed these people in the town. Don’t let anyone tell you about the Savior of the world, crack open His word, get on your knees, head to the well….you’ll find Him there. Every time.
