icampus week 2 update
Well, the 2nd week of the official launch was amazing. From the tech side of things we had most of it under control. Some complained of LOW audio levels and we’re efforting on fixing that…though there’s not a lot we can do. We are pumping out maximum volumage from our end. (that’s official lingo)
The weekend went amazing. I do have to tell of what happened just before we went on at the 7:00 on Sat. ………….I was all the way backstage in the green room with the band when Jason Smithers calls me from the icastle saying ‘dude, get up here….there’s only 2 minutes on the clock!!!!!’ I really should have just said go live without my intro, but I took it as a challenge. So off I went. And I ran. As fast as I possibly could. I pushed kids aside, 2 tours full of people, it was awesome. I think I hurdled a garbage can at one point. So I run all the way up there, throw my headset mic on and go live with 1 minute to go.
I only had one minute to talk so I knew I had to get it out fast. The problem was, I was so out of breath I couldn’t breathe. I got the first sentence out and it was like a balloon inflating that could never pop, and you had to let the air out or you would die. I simply couldn’t talk anymore, nor could I breathe. It was at the point that Jason Smithers was laughing so hard he had to run out of the icastle. Lisa Bullock, our lighting queen was on the groung laughing, she couldn’t even look at me she had completely lost it. Joshua White my right hand man abandoned me in shame and laughter. I actually left the screen trying to laugh/breathe. When I came back on I was laughing so hard I just left…without saying anything at all. Then I fell on the ground and almost threw up laughing.
And the world was watching. No, we didn’t record it. It was the funniest moment I can ever remember.
Anyway, Sunday rolled on and all went great. My brother in law (Jason Tucker) rocked it out at the Perrysburg Campus. The whole music team was incredible this weekend.
In the icampus we had some amazing stories…from a wife who attended church with her husband who is stationed in Iraq..(they were both in the chat too)….very cool….we’re going to send him a flip so he can interview himself about the experience and we’ll interview his wife and show it on a weekend here soon.
People attending church for the first time ever, people getting saved, people getting connected into lifegroups….unreal.
We’ve got a lot planned for the near future….including starting online igroups (via video), online classes live…..and a once a month talk show hosted by me exclusive to the icampus. I’ll reveal more on a ‘note’ on the icampus facebook page this week.
As for me, personally….I’ve never felt more like I’m using the gifts God has given me in my life. From the stupid videos I would film when I was in Jr High to the videos I’ve shot over the years at the creek to the way social media just sort of ‘worked’ for me….now to this icampus.
I won’t miss singing, though I’m grateful God was able to use me for that over the first 15 years. I feel like it’s just time to move on to what He really wants from me…we’ll see where that ends up but this feels a lot closer these days:))
I’m humbled. I’m an idiot and God is doing something I never dreamt possible through all of us online. It’s the easiest invite you’ll ever make.
God is amazing to use people like YOU and me isn’t He?
