Hydrate with Fear!

We all know what it’s like to be dehydrated. You just feel run down. When it happens to me my stomach gets upset, I get a headache and I just feel like I have no energy. I can remember one time years ago when I was in the hospital from the stomach flu. I was so dehydrated I couldn’t stop from cramping….my hands, arms, legs….everything. I couldn’t even walk! The first thing they did is start an IV….and then another, and then another.

I can’t remember how many bags they had to dump into me……but I will never forget how it made me feel. I could literally feel my body coming back to life! I recall it making me REALLY cold but I didn’t care…I just couldn’t believe what an infusion of hydration could physically do for the body.

I ran across this verse today while having devotions:

 [7] Be not wise in your own eyes;

fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.

[8] It will be healing to your flesh

and refreshment to your bones.

(Proverbs 3:7-8 ESV)

What does this tell you? It tells me that entertaining evil spiritually dehydrates the soul and body. What kind of evil? Mass murder? Robbing a bank? Or how about a simple lie? Or maybe a battle with lust or pride, or jealousy, or just being plain mean to someone at work? Maybe not forgiving someone you know wronged you? …..ALL of it.

This scripture tells me that if I SIMPLY turn away from these temptations….If I don’t try to conquer them on my own…….if I remember that God is EXACTLY who He says He is…..the Healer, the Doctor, the Judge, the Jury, the Comforter, the Encourager, the Hydrator for a dehydrated, dried up and neglected spiritual life.

Fear Him enough to know He alone conquers whatever you’re battling. Turn from it and let your tired, achy, and bruised soul - mind and heart fill with healing and refreshment! Doesn’t that sound amazing? Doesn’t that sound like all of this spring rain here in Ohio turning everything green and full of life? Doesn’t that sound like something we need as a church, as a community and as a Christ follower?

Add one thing to the list today that you commit to turning from. Hand it over to Jesus…let’s get those dry bones refreshed and full of life!
