As Christians we are always encouraged to LOVE the lost. Most churches at least preach that we’re supposed to ‘reach out’ to those that don’t know Jesus, whether they put their money where their mouths are as churches is up to them. Regardless it’s at least talked about. At CedarCreek we have kept that primary focus at the forefront of our vision/mission since day one. We can be accused of many things, but NOT reaching out to unbelievers can’t be one of them. It’s engrained in our minds and hearts, what we do with that is up to us as individuals, right?
If you haven’t really thought about WHY you should tell the world about Jesus…or if you’ve just been doing it because a church tells you to…or even if you genuinely reach out to be faithful to the Word of God…here’s the passage in scripture that might give you a little more focus, it comes from Matthew Chapter 9.
35 nAnd Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 oWhen he saw the crowds, phe had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, qlike sheep without a shepherd. 37 rThen he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;38 therefore spray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to tsend out laborers into his harvest.”
Did you catch that?? Not the ‘laborers are few thing’…that’s obviously been a church issue since the beginning. ha
Not that the harvest is plentiful either, because until the entire world knows Jesus this will be the case.
It’s the REASON Jesus reached out…WHEN HE SAW THE CROWDS HE HAD COMPASSION ON THEM. -whoops. He didn’t reach out because He had to, He didn’t do it to get a spiritual notch on His belt, He didn’t engage the unsaved because He was commanded to even…He did it because He truly had compassion for them.
If you’re like me you may have to get a heart check. Lay your pride aside, pray the God will give you that compassion for the lost that His Son had. Imagine how that could change what we do.
